ABOUT THE PENTAGON SKI CLUB
Susie Pumphrey
PSC President
Welcome to our website, which is built on the Wild Apricot platform. I hope you find it useful!
The Pentagon Ski Club is a not-for-profit social club, incorporated in Maryland [501(c)7 for tax purposes], dedicated to skiing and open to the entire public. We have about 400-500 members. 85% of them live in Virginia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia, but we've also had members living in a dozen or more other states ... and even in Canada!
What we do mostly is ski! We typically offer about 13 trips each year to the Rockies, California, Canada and Europe, starting before the New Year and ending in April. We've also run many non-skiing summer vacation trips, whether cruises or land tours. Destinations have included Scandinavia, Greece, the eastern Baltic, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, England, Spain, France, Scotland & Ireland, and China.
We are also a member club of the Blue Ridge Ski Council, an organization of 20-25 of the ski clubs in the mid-Atlantic region. This allows us to "sanction" our trips and make them available, at no extra cost, to members of other clubs that belong to the BRSC. It also allows our own members to go on sanctioned trips run by all the other BRSC clubs. The BRSC itself runs two trips each year in which the PSC normally participates — a Western Carnival (typically to the U.S. or Canadian Rockies) and a Eurofest.
We meet monthly, usually on the second Tuesday of the month (check our meeting schedule) from September through April (except February) at Fort Myer, Virginia, starting at 7 PM. Our meetings are a good opportunity to socialize, talk to the trip leaders about our trips, and introduce ski-related themes to the membership — anything from new equipment and fashion to ski safety. We also hold a picnic in July.
If you have any specific questions, you can e-mail me, or see the Contact Us page for additional contact information. I urge you to check through our website for any questions you may have regarding our schedule or other issues. I extend an invitation to all of you who enjoy skiing (or would like to learn!) to join the Pentagon Ski Club on the slopes this season. If you are interested in skiing and ski clubs, we are always looking for volunteers to help us. I hope to see you at our meetings as well as on the mountains. Susie Pumphrey
