Welcome to the Pentagon Ski Club!

2018-2019 Trips

Listed below are all of the skiing and non-skiing trips which are on our calendar.  Click on the Show details links to see the particulars for each trip.

You must be logged-in with your PSC credentials (email address & password) in order to register (sign up) for a trip.  Before signing up, please take a moment to review your profile including your emergency contact information and (if you're thinking of a trip to Canada or Europe) your passport information.  Make sure your first and middle names exactly match your passport (or whatever ID you'll fly with) so your ticket gets issued correctly.  Then click on the trip's Register button if you're ready to sign up!  Your personal information will be pulled from your profile, and then you will need to select options specific to each trip, for example, what type of lodging you prefer (double occupancy or a single room at extra cost) and what type of lift ticket you want.

Effective 8/1/2018, registration for our 2018-2019 ski trips is opened up to members of other ski clubs that are members of the Blue Ridge Ski Council through the "sanctioning" process.  To register for a trip you must first "join" the PSC as a no-cost BRSC member and populate your membership profile.

An invoice will be generated for each trip you've registered for.  Most trips include a payment table listing an initial deposit, one or more interim payments, and a final payment date.  You must pay the initial deposit, and any subsequent interim payments that have or are about to come due, to secure your place on the trip.  Your registration is not confirmed until we receive and acknowledge your deposit.  Payments can be made by mailing (or giving) a check to the trip leader.  We also accept credit card payments.

Lowered by $85 7/7/18 with switch to air on Delta (was $2,250).

7 nights (Sat-Sat) in luxury accommodations at The Summit Lodge with welcome reception & full daily breakfast buffet in the Peaks Restaurant.  The elegant Euro-Western Summit is one of the finest slope-side properties in the Rockies.  Combining luxury appointments with a prime location in the heart of the Mountain Village Center, The Summit is situated right at the apex of the two main lifts on the mountain -- Swift Current going up Lone Peak and the Ramcharger lift to Andesite Mountain.  The Ramcharger is being upgraded to a state-of-the-art (and first in North America) 8-seat lift this summer, so the brief morning lines will be even shorter!

The listed price includes double occupancy in a room with two Queen beds and round-trip air from Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA) to Bozeman (details below).  Add $991 for the single supplement if you want a Q/Q room to yourself.

The listed trip price includes five days of lift tickets for an adult skier, but other options are available to choose from when you register including a $90 upgrade to a 6-day ticket.  There is no discount for seniors, but 12 & under children ski free.  Non-skiers may deduct $325 for the package without lift tickets.  Skiers holding an Ikon Pass should confirm their benefits before selecting their lift tickets.  “Full-up” Ikon Passes afford 7 days of skiing at Big Sky without restriction, but the less costly Ikon Base Pass affords only 5 days and is specifically blacked out on our first day of skiing (Sunday, January 20).

Our rooms have coffee makers and a wet bar with a half-size refrigerator.  Rooms with one King bed (and a fireplace) are available as a priced upgrade.  Studio rooms with a Queen Murphy bed, a sofabed, a compact (but full) kitchen, and a fireplace -- perhaps ideal for couples or a single skier -- are also available at a modest discount from the standard Q/Q rooms.  Amenities include daily housekeeping service and nightly turndown.

    $2165

Price shown includes round-trip air; lift tickets not included in package.
Option for 3-night post-trip extension in Zürich ($470).

The largest ski resort in Switzerland and the highest city in Europe, Davos encompasses five separate ski areas spread out on both sides of the valley, any one of which would be considered big by American standards. With descents from almost 9,000 feet, Davos offers an endless variety of terrain.  The Parsenn cograil bahn, right out of Davos Dorf, has increased speed and capacity to give access to the largest ski domain in the region. In addition, this multifaceted winter sports complex offers miles of cross-country trails, tobogganing, sleigh rides and skating on Europe’s largest outdoor rink.

Our trip includes 7 nights (Sat-Sat) in the 4-star Central Sporthotel with full daily breakfast buffet & four-course dinners.  RT air on United from Washington Dulles (IAD) to Zurich (details below).  Welcome drink upon arrival, entry into the hotel's wellness area (indoor swimming pool, saunas, steam baths, and exercise room), free WiFi, and the guest pass Davos Klosters which includes free transport on the local buses, as well as the rail from Filisur to Klosters Dorf.  Lift tickets not included.  Listed cost is for double occupancy in a standard double room.  A limited number of single rooms may be available; request when registering and the trip leader will confirm availability and cost, and make an adjustment to your invoice if you can be confirmed.

    Trip Flyer

Emergency medical, evacuation & repatriation insurance (not cancellation insurance) is included.  Note that this is not cancellation coverage and will not provide any relief if you have to cancel from the trip before it begins, whether for medical or other reasons.  You may upgrade your coverage to include cancellation coverage by clicking on the link.  It will take you to a flyer describing the options available, including a link to the detailed coverage plan.  Note that the "Cancel for Any Reason" (CFAR) option must be purchased within 14 days of paying your initial deposit on the trip.

A family-owned and operated hotel for generations, the Central Sporthotel has a worldwide reputation for its warm hospitality, excellent restaurants, and enchanting atmosphere of ease and elegance.  Perfectly located in the heart of Davos Platz, it's just a 2-minute walk to the Promenade, Davos' lovely shopping avenue with lots of shops, cafes, and bars.  The Valley stations of Schatzalpbahn and the Jakobshornbahn (ski areas) can be reached within a 5-minute walk.  The sports center, the ice stadium, and the convention center are also just a short walk away.

The hotel's spa has an indoor swimming pool, a Finnish and Bio Sauna, a steam bath, and a small exercise room; massage and solarium are available for an extra charge.

    Zürich Option - $470
    3-night post-trip extension in Zürich

returns to the U.S. Tuesday, February 5

Three nights (Sat, Sun, Mon) in the 3-star Leoneck Swiss Hotel in Zürich, with daily breakfast.

Over the last fifteen years, Zürich has truly become a fascinating and worthwhile travel destination.  Located in north-central Switzerland at the northwestern tip of Lake Zürich, it’s the largest city in the country.  The city is well known for a demanding audience in opera/ballet, classical concerts, and theater.  You’ll find more than 50 museums and over 100 galleries in the inner city.  Plenty of attractions to keep us busy for a few days and nights.  Check out some of the offerings listed on Wiki Travel.

Zürich is famous for its highly efficient, clean and safe public transport system. There are dozens of ways to get from one place to another.  Several tram lines and buses cover the city at street level. (Like all other public transport in Zurich, you purchase and validate tickets before boarding, or risk a fine if they decide to spot check!)

Our hotel is decorated in a fancy ethnic design and is located at a prime location in the center of Zürich, just a 6-minute walk from the Bahnhofstrasse train station.  Amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars with complimentary water, desks, safes, hairdryers, a kettle with coffee and tea, and high-speed WiFi.

Saturday morning (Feb 2) our bus from Davos will drop those returning to the U.S. at the Zürich airport, and will then take us to our hotel.  Since we can't expect our rooms to be ready so early in the day, we've arranged a city tour of Zürich (with bus and guide) and a guided walking tour of the city's old town.  Tuesday morning (Feb 5) we'll be bused to the airport for our flight home.

    Option for 3-night pre-trip extension in Venice, departs U.S. March 5 ($445).

Blue Ridge Ski Council Eurofest with 7 nights (Sat-Sat) in the historic 4-star Schloss Hotel Dolomiti (tel. 011-39-0462-601106).  Our trip includes a welcome reception, mid-week Apres-Ski Party, Farewell Dinner/Dance Party, and a "Trentino Ski Sunrise Surprise Breakfast."

Located in the Dolomites, Val di Fassa lies in the north-east part of Trentino in Northern Italy. It is surrounded by the most spectacular and famous Dolomite peaks, which ice and wind have modeled into the steep walls, towering spires and daring pinnacles typical of these mountains. The attractions are further enhanced at sunset when the sun’s rays set the rocks alight and turn them to a warm red color. The valley is also famous for the Dolomiti Super-ski region and the 10 villages that make up the charm of the Ladin culture, cuisine and language.

Canazei is the only major resort in the Fassa Valley truly located on the Sella Ronda circuit with access to Corvara, Colfosco and Arabba.  Canazei is known as the “jewel of the Dolomites Superski area” and is the capital of snow sports. It also hosts our historic Hapsburg period-style hotel.  With just under 2000 inhabitants, the Village of Canazei is in the Ladin-speaking part of the Dolomites area of Italy. It is one of the main winter centers in the Val di Fassa (Fassatal for the German-speaking part of the South Tyrol) and occupies a strategic position in the Sella Ronda.  Canazei is often mentioned along with the neighboring Village of Campitello, which has its own connection into the vast Sella Ronda area with a lift from the resort heading up near the Sella pass.

Schloss Hotel Dolomiti is strategically located in the heart of Canazei in the upper Fassa Valley near the park and the new Aquatic Centre Dolaondes.  A historic and impressive family-run hotel, built in typical Hapsburg period style, it's at the foot of the famous Rosengarten mountain range, recognized by UNESCO as a natural heritage. Situated in a picturesque and charming environment, the hotel is full of history and poetry, with wood paneling, vaulted ceilings, refined furnishing and a traditional welcome, in keeping with the hospitality that Trentino is renowned for. The Belvedere cable car is a short walk from the hotel, which is an excellent starting point for magnificent walks in the unspoiled beauty of the Fassa Valley.  The restaurant pizzeria cafè, bar pub Kaiserstube, with the “Kaiserin Sissi” reserved dining room, is connected to the hotel. Half Board (Breakfast & Dinner) is included, featuring an International buffet breakfast, sweet and salad buffet, a wide choice of themed dinners, and candlelight salad buffet.  Amenities include satellite TV, minibar, telephone, safe, and hairdryer.

The listed price is for double occupancy in a Classic Double Room, and includes a 5-day adult lift ticket (unusual for European trips!) and round-trip air from Dulles (details below)

    April 6 - 25, 2019

    $4,590
Note date change effective 8/12/18:  Was originally planned for April 9-28.

This spring the PSC will be going to India and Dubai, two of the most different countries you will ever see. One is a country with a history going back many thousands of years, a country of religions, architecture, great beauty, art and people of every type: a country with a great past and a hopeful future. The other is a new country, rich, with modern architecture, few people, and is monotheistic. It may be the most modern country (city) in the world.

We depart from Dulles Airport on April 6th and arrive in Dubai on the 7th. We will spend three nights there, seeing all the splendor money can buy. Maybe you will want to have a drink near the top of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa (over 2700 feet high), perhaps visit the Burj Al Arab, a hotel that looks like a sail, or see the man-made Palm Islands. Go skiing - yes, in the Mall of the Emirates, one of the largest malls in the world - probably you have seen it on Facebook. We will be on our own, no guides, no meals except breakfasts , we will have to rough it.

On April 10 we will depart Dubai for New Delhi, the capital of India. This is where our guided tour, the Heart of India begins. We will visit Delhi, Jaipur, Ranthambore, Geejgarh Village, Agra and the Taj Mahal, Khajuraho and Varanasi. What's included? All accomodations, a trip guide and local guides, land transportation, international airfare, 3 internal flights, and 33 meals - daily breakfasts, 9 lunches and 10 dinners. India's visa is not included, it's estimated at $130 and OAT will inform us of what to do and when to get it. Click on the link below for trip details.

    Sign Up and Trip Size:

This is a small trip, basically boutique in size: 16 people with a possibility of a small increase. Thus, if you want to be on the trip, act quickly. Call OAT at 800-955-1925, mention you want to go on the Heart of India/Dubai trip on April 6, 2019, and mention this code: G9-27957. You will need to put a deposit of $350 down on a credit card. OAT handles all payments on this trip and you can pay for the trip in full (by check only) and save some money. Thus, your trip coordinators are not getting any checks or money from you. After you have signed up with OAT, then you should REGISTER for the trip on the PSC website.

Membership Requirement:  Your club membership must be current when signing up for the trip and throughout the duration of the trip.  Since the trip is essentially sold out as of July 2018, there are no plans to "sanction" the trip through the Blue Ridge Ski Council.

    Insurance:

The insurance OAT offers is a cancel-for-any-reason policy. It is a bit costly. As an alternative, we are offering three levels of insurance (including medical only for $21) from Myra Altschuler at Travel Protectors. Her details are on the flyer below and you have to contact her directly - do not send the money to us. We have used her before with success. You can also opt for your own insurance.
