Welcome to the Pentagon Ski Club!

Trips!
(and Meetings)

Scroll down to see our offerings!  In addition to our ski trips, our several non-skiing vacation trips are also available for registration/signups.

Epic & Ikon Passes:  Most of our trips will be going to resorts that honor one of the multi-resort season passes.  You may purchase passes directly from the suppliers, but several of our our tour operators have promotions offering discounts or rebates in conjunction the trips you might take with the club.  Go to our Epic & Ikon Pass page to see the offers.  You may wish to consider purchasing your passes through them.  The exceptions are Military Epic passes and military discounts on Ikon passes, which are only available from the suppliers.

You should consider purchasing passes early-on as the costs typically increase before the Memorial Day holiday and periodically as winter gets closer.   Season pass sales are likely to end sometime in late fall.

Blue Ridge Ski Council:  Beginning August 1, 2023, registration for our 2024 ski trips was opened to members of other ski clubs that are members of the Blue Ridge Ski Council through the "sanctioning" process.  Hint:  To register for a trip you must first "join" the PSC as a no-cost BRSC member and populate your membership profile.

Tips for All Trips

Trip Insurance:  Be sure to review our Trip Insurance page before signing up for a trip, and consider whether to purchase cancellation insurance.  Note that the cancel for any reason option requires that you pay the premium within 14 days of paying your initial deposit on a trip.  The 14-day purchase deadline also applies in order to waive the pre-existing medical condition exclusion.

Signup/Registration Tips:  Please take a moment to read the Trip Signup/Registration Tips.  Each individual must be logged-in with their PSC credentials (email address & password) in order to register (sign up) for a trip.  Before signing up, please take a moment to review your profile including your emergency contact information and (if you're thinking of a trip to Canada or Europe) your passport information.  Make sure your first and middle names exactly match your passport (or whatever ID you'll fly with) so your ticket gets issued correctly.  Then click on the trip's Register button if you're ready to sign up!  Your personal information will be pulled from your profile, and then you will need to select options specific to each trip, for example, what type of lodging you prefer (double occupancy or a single room at extra cost) and what type of lift ticket you want.

Important If you are registering someone other than yourself, you must log out of your own account and then log in with their credentials.  If you skip this step and register them while signed into your own account, their profile information won't convey into their signup record.  This is necessary even with family (bundle) memberships where you are the bundle administrator.

Wait-Listed Trips:  Click on the button to Join wait list and we may be able to confirm you on the trip if we have a cancellation, after confirming that you still want to go.  We're also sometimes able to expand a trip to accommodate additional skiers.

Trip Invoice & Initial Deposit:  An invoice will be generated for each trip you've registered for.  Each trip includes a payment table listing an initial deposit, one or more interim payments, and a final payment date.  You must pay the initial deposit, and any subsequent interim payments that have or are about to come due, to secure your place on the trip.  Your registration is not confirmed until we receive and acknowledge your deposit.  Payments can be made online with a credit card, or by check.  We can also accept credit card payments at club meetings.

Register to Attend by Monday Dec 4th

Our next monthly club meeting will be on  Tuesday, December 12th, 7:00pm at Ft. Myer's Patton Hall (same location as always).  We'll be in our normal location of the Abrams/Chaffee rooms on the 2nd floor.

The evening will feature our annual campaign in support of Bread for the City, a local charity that supports the needy in our area.  Please consider bringing your unneeded, gently used winter clothing to donate (as well as your checkbooks!).  Our complimentary holiday menu will include Roasted Top Round of Beef with Roasted Red Potatoes, a Veggie Tray, Fresh Mozzarella with Pear Tomatoes, and Christmas Bread Pudding.  A cash bar will be available for the beverages of your choice.

Most of our winter trips have either been filled or have had to return unused air and lodging, but some may still be available for signups.  Visit our Trips Page to see what's available.

    Registration Required

We're asking everyone to register to attend by Monday, December 4th – just a week before the meeting so we can adjust the catering.

    Vax Required

Covid-19 vaccination remains as a requirement for attending club meetings and trips This is for everyone's safety and comfort level.  We will not be asking for proof of vaccination, but please do not register for or attend the meeting unless you are fully vaccinated.  Booster shots are of course also recommended and encouraged.

    Bringing a Guest?

If you plan to come to the meeting with someone else, there are two ways to let us know:

    • If your companion is a club member in their own right, they can log in with their credentials and register for the meeting much as they would do if signing up for a trip.
    • Whether your companion is a club member or not, you can simply include them in your own meeting registration by clicking on the Add guest button before submitting your registration.

    If Your Plans Change

If your plans change and you can no longer attend, please let us know (ideally by Monday, Dec 5th) so we can adjust our catering order.  You may do this by:

    • Calling (703-862-6535) or emailing Steve Thompson
    • Calling (301-579-2749) or emailing Dave Olsen

    Ft. Myer Entry Passes

You may recall that we offered an opportunity when signing up for our picnic, and most recently for our October meeting, to be sponsored for obtaining a long-term (1-year) Ft. Myer visitor pass.  We anticipate being able to repeat that opportunity on a quarterly basis.  The next opportunity will be in conjunction with our January 9, 2024 club meeting.  But not at this time.

    Entry to Ft. Myer

Please take a moment to review our Entry to Ft. Myer page.  There are several ways you'll be allowed to enter:

    • Passengers:  Firstly, be aware that drivers won't necessarily be allowed to vouch for their passengers.  Although a photo ID like a driver's license might sometimes be accepted, passengers without an Automated Installation Entry (AIE) Pass (see below) or one of the other types of ID mentioned below might need to complete a Installation Access Request Form and pass the vetting process to enter the base.
    • With Suitable ID:  If you have an active duty or retired military ID, or a DoD-issued Common Access Card (CAC) (and possibly several other types of government-issued ID), you should be able to enter the base without screening.
    • Without a Pass:  If you arrive for a club meeting outside of Visitor Control Center (VCC) hours (see below) and without suitable ID, your vehicle will be searched and you'll need to be vetted through their security system before being allowed entry.  This may take some time, so we suggest that you arrive at the base early.
    • One-Day Pass:  You can apply for a one-day pass online at this website (click on the link).  You can then show the pass on your phone to gain entry.  However, application must be submitted at least four days in advance of your visit.  The process time may depend on your footprint in various online systems, and you may need to go to the VCC to have your photo taken. That said, your application might be approved almost instantaneously if you've previously been approved for an AIE Pass.
    • 60-Day Pass:  You may apply for a 60-day pass at the Visitor Control Center, located just inside the main gate.  The VCC is open 6am-5pm Mon-Fri and 10am-3pm Saturdays.  You should be able to obtain a 60-day Automated Installation Entry (AIE) Pass right on the spot.
You will need to complete an access application and be vetted through their security system.  To help speed the process, we suggest that you complete the Fort Myer Installation Access Request Form ahead of your visit and bring it with you.
    • Long-Term/Annual Pass:  With sponsorship by Patton Hall, you may be able to get an AIE Pass good for as long as a year.  As mentioned above, we anticipate offering another opportunity for obtaining an annual pass in conjunction with our January 9, 2024 club meeting.  But not at this time.

    Snowbird's Gad Valley

Our trip includes 7 nights (Sat-Sat) in the Cliff Lodge (hotel rooms) with daily breakfast buffet (except our departure day), round-trip air from Washington to Salt Lake City (details below), and ground transfers.

    Cliff Lodge

    Queen/Queen Room

The majesty of Little Cottonwood Canyon can be explored from the views each room provides, whether in a Mountain View room facing Snowbird’s ski slopes o a Canyon View room peering down the glacially carved canyons spilling into the Salt Lake City valley below.  Our rooms are equipped with two Queen beds.  Room amenities include a small refrigerator, television, hairdryer, iron/ironing board, humidifier and coffee maker.

Ikon Pass Benefits:  If you're planning to ski at more than one "Ikon" resort this winter, an Ikon Pass may be a better value than the available group lift tickets (see below); it may depend when you buy your pass as prices will increase as winter gets closer .

    • A Full Ikon Pass provides 7 days (total/combined) at Alta & Snowbird.
    • An Ikon Base Pass gives you 5 days at Snowbird (only).
    • An Ikon Base Plus Pass gives you 5 days (total/combined) at Alta & Snowbird.

Ikon Passes must be individually purchased (not through the club).  You may purchase Ikon Passes directly from Ikon, but we suggest that you visit our Epic & Ikon Pass page to explore the promotional offers that may be available from our tour operators.

If you'll be using an Ikon Pass, we must provide your pass number to the resort so that it counts towards our group lift ticket minimum purchase requirements.  Please enter your Ikon Pass number into your membership profile before registering for the trip, or provide it to the trip leader if you purchase (or renew) your pass subsequent to signing up.

Group Lift Tickets:   Group lift tickets are available as an extra-cost option for skiers without an Ikon Pass.  You can upgrade to also ski at Alta for an estimated $50/day at the resort.  There is no senior discount as the lift tickets are offered as part of an all-inclusive group package, but 80+ seniors ski FREE at Alta (only).

Located on the sunny Italian side of the Matterhorn in the Aosta Valley at the foot of Mount Cervino (the Matterhorn), Cervinia offers an impressive 93 miles of ski terrain serviced by 24 chairlifts.  The variety of slopes and connections between Cervinia and Valtournenche (in Italy) and Zermatt (in Switzerland) has made this district, which goes by the name Cervino Ski Paradise, one of the most popular destinations with skiers from all over the world.  Its extensive network of lift systems and trails lets you reach all three localities without ever taking your skis off, admiring the Cervino/ Matterhorn from both the Italian and Swiss sides.  State-of-the-art lift systems make it possible to reach the peaks quickly, taking in the beautiful views all around.  Just think of the cable car (125 passengers) which leaves the Cime Bianche Laghi station in Cervinia and climbs to the 3,500 meters of Plateau Rosà, or the "Pancheron" chair lift, also in Cervinia, which arrives under the crests of the Furggen, allowing you to almost reach out and touch the tip of the Matterhorn.  Not to mention the legendary decent of the Ventina, from Plateau Rosà to Cervinia town: a trail which, as well as being one of the most famous in the world for its length, is renowned for the beauty of the surrounding landscape.  And let yourself be captivated by the amazing food served in the many incredible restaurants scattered along the slopes.

Blue Ridge Ski Council Western Carnival!  7 nights (Sat-Sat) at Harveys Hotel and Casino with round-trip air from Washington to Sacramento (details below), and ground transfers.

    Harveys Hotel and Casino

Harveys, the very first casino hotel built on the Lake Tahoe’s South Shore, has a rich tradition of hospitality that you’ll discover around every corner with chic, modern décor.  Explore Harveys Website to discover all the hotel's amenities.

    Heavenly's Ridge Run

Walking distance to the gondola, Harveys offers easy access to all the thrills that Heavenly has to offer.  Explore world famous terrain across two states, from the most scenic trail in skiing on Ridge Run to the steeps in Mott and Killebrew Canyons, Heavenly is the place to enjoy all of skiing’s finest moments with friends and family alike.

Plans are tentative at the moment, but we hope to arrange a day trip to Kirkwood on Monday and Northstar on Wednesday; any of our Epic Pass products are good at both of those resorts.

The trip is the BRSC's Western Carnival and includes:

    • Sunday & Tuesday aprés ski parties with appetizers & beverages
    • Thursday farewell dinner/dance with beverages

    Queen/Queen Room

Located in Harvey's Tahoe Tower, our recently remodeled 525-square-foot Luxury Rooms offer two Queen beds.

Single Rooms:   Listed price is for double occupancy; add $700 for the Single Supplement if you want a room to yourself.

Lift Tickets:  Lift tickets are not included in the trip package, as Vail Resorts is no longer offering competitively priced group lift tickets.  Epic Passes, which must be individually purchased (not through the club), provide the best value.

Epic Passes:  Participants are encouraged to purchase an Epic Pass product of some type early-on.  The following options would cover your skiing for the trip, not only at Heavenly but also at Northstar and Kirkwood resorts.  Prices shown are as of mid-October 2023, but pass sales, for all but the Day Passes, are likely to end sometime in late fall:

    • A "full" Epic Pass ($969)
    • Military Epic Pass – Active/Retired ($172); Veteran ($552)
    • Epic Day Pass (the non-holiday-rate for a "38 resort" pass) – ($371 for 5 days; $434 for 6 days)

Although we're staying at Snowmass, you might want to ski a day or more at one of the other three resorts that are all reachable with the free bus system: Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, and Buttermilk.  You might want to check out the new Pandora's terrain at Aspen Mountain that's scheduled to open this winter:  Beginning in the 2023-2024 season, the area, which has been skied by a small number of people for years, will now be accessed via a high-speed quad and will include 1,220 vertical feet of groomed trails and glades ranging from intermediate to advanced terrain (plus an extension of favorite expert runs such as Walsh’s, Kristi, Hyrup’s). This will be Aspen Mountain’s first significant addition since the opening of the Silver Queen Gondola in December of 1985. Click the link to read all about it!

Our trip includes 7 nights (Sat-Sat) in deluxe hotel rooms at the slopeside Stonebridge Inn with welcome reception, daily breakfast buffet, round-trip air from Washington to Denver (details below), and ground transfers.  Baggage handling is included.

    Stonebridge Inn

Selected three years in a row as one of the 50 Top Ski Resort Hotels in the United States by Condé Nast Traveler magazine, the Stonebridge Inn offers comfortable, modern hotel rooms in the style of a rustic lodge.  Located in the heart of Snowmass Village, just steps from the slopes and within walking distance to the Snowmass Base Village, it offers an intimate alpine escape, framed by aspen groves and the 14,000-foot peaks of the Rockies.  The hotel's Artisan Restaurant is one of Snowmass Village’s premier dining experiences.  Cozy up by the fire in the lounge, relax at the bar, or sit down to one of the finest dining experiences in Snowmass.  Experience the convenience of a ski resort in the atmosphere of a boutique hotel.

Hotel amenities include a heated outdoor pool and hot tub, fitness room, sauna, Internet access, on-site laundry facilities, and a ski locker room.  Complimentary shuttles are available to take us around the village.

    Queen/Queen Room

Our Q/Q rooms feature extensive amenities including mini refrigerators, coffee makers, and hair dryers.

Single Rooms:  Listed price is for double occupancy; add $1,550 for the single supplement if you want a room to yourself.

Ikon Pass Benefits:  If you're planning to ski at more than one "Ikon" resort this winter, an Ikon Pass may be a better value than the available group lift tickets (see below); it may depend when you buy your pass as prices will increase as winter gets closer.

    • A Full Ikon Pass gives you 7 days at Aspen/Snowmass.
    • An Ikon Base Pass has no benefits at Aspen/Snowmass.
    • An Ikon Base Plus Pass gives you 5 days at Aspen/Snowmass.

Ikon Passes must be individually purchased (not through the club).  You may purchase Ikon Passes directly from Ikon, but we suggest that you visit our Epic & Ikon Pass page to explore the promotional offers that may be available from our tour operators.

Ikon Lift Reservations:  Skiers using an Ikon Pass will be required to make reservations for their ski days by logging into their Ikon Pass account at ikonpass.com.  You should make your reservations as soon as you sign up for the trip as daily space is limited and could sell out.

On July 27th, Aspen-Snowmass announced that Ikon reservations will become available on August 1st, 2023:

    Aspen Snowmass Reservation Policy

    • Ikon Passholders must make reservations for the specific dates they plan to ski/snowboard at Aspen Snowmass.

    • Reservation days are contingent on how many remaining days the passholder has available at Aspen Snowmass.

Sunday River boasts 135 trails, 15 lifts & The Most Dependable Snow in New England.  While others tend to boast, Sunday River is a very big resort spanning three miles long from White Cap to the Jordan Bowl and in between, 8 interconnected mountain peaks, 135 trails, 820 acres plus more hidden spots than a snow leopard on a powder day thanks to our Boundary to Boundary policy.  And while most resorts thank Mother Nature for their winter bounty, we take matters into our own hands with the most powerful snowmaking system in the world.

Set in the most spectacular mountain location in New England, the Jordan Hotel is the premier address at Sunday River and offers sweeping views of the resort's western peaks and across the valley toward the Mahoosuc Range.
