Located on the sunny Italian side of the Matterhorn in the Aosta Valley at the foot of Mount Cervino (the Matterhorn), Cervinia offers an impressive 93 miles of ski terrain serviced by 24 chairlifts. The variety of slopes and connections between Cervinia and Valtournenche (in Italy) and Zermatt (in Switzerland) has made this district, which goes by the name Cervino Ski Paradise, one of the most popular destinations with skiers from all over the world. Its extensive network of lift systems and trails lets you reach all three localities without ever taking your skis off, admiring the Cervino/ Matterhorn from both the Italian and Swiss sides. State-of-the-art lift systems make it possible to reach the peaks quickly, taking in the beautiful views all around. Just think of the cable car (125 passengers) which leaves the Cime Bianche Laghi station in Cervinia and climbs to the 3,500 meters of Plateau Rosà, or the "Pancheron" chair lift, also in Cervinia, which arrives under the crests of the Furggen, allowing you to almost reach out and touch the tip of the Matterhorn. Not to mention the legendary decent of the Ventina, from Plateau Rosà to Cervinia town: a trail which, as well as being one of the most famous in the world for its length, is renowned for the beauty of the surrounding landscape. And let yourself be captivated by the amazing food served in the many incredible restaurants scattered along the slopes.

Lake Como
Our stay will include a half-day guided tour of MIlan, and a half-day guided tour to Lake Como, an upscale resort area in Northern Italy’s Lombardy region. Set against the foothills of the Alps, Lake Como is known for its dramatic scenery. The lake is shaped like an upside-down Y, with three slender branches that meet at the resort town of Bellagio. At the bottom of the southwest branch lies the city of Como, home to Renaissance architecture and a funicular that travels up to the mountain town of Brunate.
We will also have a Winery and Truffle Hunter Day where we visit the Piedmont wine region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and tour a famous winery. We'll enjoy a wine-tasting of famous vintages, such as Dolcetto & Gave, Barolo, Moscato, and Brochetto. Lunch is in a family-run winery. We will visit the winery to learn about winemaking techniques and traditions.
After lunch we'll go on an adventure and join an experienced truffle hunter and his trained dogs to get an introduction to the magic and mystery of the work of truffles. We'll learn the difference between black and white truffles as we search for them in the wood, getting back to nature on a walk through the hills of the Langhe as we stroll between the wine region of Barolo and the Bussia area.
Logistics: On Saturday, January 20, we'll transfer to Cervinia where we'll join the main/"ski-only" group who will have arrived after their overnight flight to Geneva from the U.S. The following Saturday, January 27, we'll all return to the U.S. from Geneva.
